Our day started out with a four hour drive to the KC airport, then went on to include a 1 1/2 hour flight to Denver, then a 7 1/2 hour flight to Honolulu, where we had a 2 hour layover. Then on to our final destination of Kona, Hawaii.
Leaving the Kona airport I expected to see a lush green tropical paradise but instead was greeted with what I call "Mars". Tons of Lava rock everywhere and the land was dry and brown! I couldn't believe it - this was not Hawaii, where's my paradise??
The farther north we traveled, the greener it got and when the resort area came into view - I was in awe of the beauty! I had found the Hawaii I was expecting!!
